New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson and his family are being sued by a California-based tech company for allegedly failing to repay a $2 million loan.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, alleges that Ankr PBC loaned the money to Williamson and his stepfather Lee Anderson in September 2021. The loan was intended to help Williamson establish a marketing relationship with Ankr, which specializes in blockchain-related technologies used in finance and data storage.

Ankr claims that Williamson and Anderson agreed to repay the loan in two installments, $500,000 by April 25, 2022, and the remaining $1.5 million by July 6, 2022. However, Ankr says that it only received $500,000 on time, and the remaining $1.8 million has not been repaid.
The lawsuit also alleges that Williamson and Anderson have refused to return Ankr’s calls and emails.

Ankr is seeking $1.8 million in damages, plus interest and attorneys’ fees.
The lawsuit comes at a time when Williamson is already facing some off-court scrutiny. In recent months, he has been the subject of trade rumors and an ongoing saga involving a former adult film star.
It is unclear how the lawsuit will affect Williamson’s future with the Pelicans. However, it is sure to add to the negative publicity that he has been facing in recent months.
