The woman, who has not been identified, was picked up by 29-year-old Negasi Zuberi in Seattle on Saturday. Zuberi posed as an undercover police officer and told the woman that she was being arrested for prostitution. He then drove her to his home in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where he locked her in a small cinder block cell in his garage.

The woman managed to escape on Sunday morning while Zuberi was away. She climbed over a wooden fence and ran to a nearby convenience store, where she called the police.
Police searched Zuberi’s home and found the cinder block cell, as well as other evidence of sexual assault. Zuberi was arrested and charged with kidnapping across state lines.
The FBI is now investigating whether Zuberi has kidnapped or assaulted other women in other states. Zuberi has lived in at least 10 states since 2016, and the FBI is asking anyone with information about his activities to come forward.

“We believe there may be other victims out there,” said FBI Special Agent Greg Long. “We’re asking anyone who may have been a victim of Zuberi to contact us.”
The woman who escaped from Zuberi’s home is being treated for her injuries. She is grateful to be alive and is cooperating with the FBI investigation.
“I’m just glad I’m safe,” she said. “I’m so grateful to the police for finding me.”
