Simon Cowell is an English reality television judge, producer, and actor who is popularly known for his scathing sarcastic critical remarks as a judge on “America’s Got Talent” television show. Cowell is notorious for his biting insults towards contestants in the reality shows “X-Factor” and “American Idol”. The reality television judge has also signed some of the world’s successful boybands such as “One Direction and CNCO” and “Westlife”. Simon Cowell was born Simon Phillip Cowell on October 7, 1959, in Lambeth, London, England. He is the son of the then estate agent, property developer, and music industry executive, Eric Selig Phillip Cowell and Julie Brett, a ballet dancer. Simon Cowell has one young brother, Nicholas Cowell, and three other half-siblings namely; June Cowell, Michael, Tony, and John. 

Once it comes to matters of education, Simon Cowell attended Radlett Preparatory School and later joined The Independent Dover College where he pursued English Language and Literature and excelled. Cowell then proceeded to Windsor Technical College to further his studies where he graduated with a GCE in Sociology. Upon completion of studies, securing a steady job was a big challenge to Simon Cowell thus forcing his father to get him some mailroom job at his company EMI Music Publishing.

How Did Simon Cowell Climb His Career Ladder?

Simon Cowell’s career kicked off in 1983 when his father employed him to work as a consultant, talent scout, and record producer at the “EMI Music Publishing”. The exposure to his father’s music industry was very pivotal since in the same year Cowell together with his friend Iain Burton came up with their production label named “Fanfare Records” through which they sold music and exercise videos. His good work as a record producer earned him a job as an A&R consultant and set up “S Records” at BMG. 

In 1989 however, some little rain beat him as his company, “Fanfare Records” went bankrupt thus forcing him to go back to the drawing board in the music business. That way he started creating novelty records with acts such as World Wrestling Federation, Power Rangers, as well as the puppets Zig and Zag.

Before landing his first job as a judge, Simon Cowell had initially managed to sign bands like Teletubbies, Westlife, and Five as well as selling over 50 million records worldwide.

Cowell later launched his own company named “Syco” which he divided into Syco Film, Syco TV, and Syco Music. At the time he launched the company, his career as a judge was already established and that saw him appear as a judge in “The X Factor”, a British television music competition.
