Brownback was born on September 12, 1956, in Garnett in the state of Kansas. He received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Kansas State University and then he also completed his law degree from the University of Kansas. After working as an attorney and a legislative assistant, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996.
During his time in the Senate, Brownback gained a reputation as a social conservative and a strong supporter of the pro-life movement. The most notable move he did in 2011 was when he signed three anti-abortion bills, in which abortion after 21 weeks was banned, and a bill requiring that a doctor get a parent’s notarized signature before providing an abortion to a minor.
